ABOUT US

GBOBA badge white.png

The General Botha Old Boys’ Association Bursary Fund was founded in 2011 to encourage and educate young South Africans to pursue careers in the maritime industry.

WHO WE ARE

OUR AIM

To assist young South African students financially who wish to enter, or who already attend an approved educational establishment to study towards a maritime career and to mentor them as they embark on
that career.

We need you to partner with us to uplift the life of a young South African who is interested in a maritime career. We need financial help in the form of donations, support for our fundraising events and gifts for prizes at events or for auctions.

WHAT WE NEED

Not only do we raise funds for education, but we actively get involved in mentoring the students and encouraging them to participate in sea going activities in preparation for a life at sea.

WHAT WE DO

WHAT IT COSTS

The Bursary Fund covers the costs for students boarding at Lawhill Maritime Centre as well as their travel expenses and participation in the Mentorship and Outreach program. Tertiary Students receive funding for one years’ study as well as boarding if deemed necessary.

HOW TO DONATE/
GET
INVOLVED

  • Contact us if you require excellent
candidates for employment in your maritime business.

  • If you have a maritime background
join us in the mentoring of students.

"Perhaps the most important thing about our mentorship programme  is that our bursars meet and interact with people who are enthusiastic and excited about their maritime calling.”
